Many expect that whoever is leading the organization will act and lead in the same way. They believe that there is commonality in how leaders act and behave. However, the reality is we all have different styles and preferences. Those preferences impact how we hire team members, how we set our priorities and how we reward performance.

At times these distinctive characteristics allow us to be highly effective when our teams need those strengths. At other times we may need to adapt to provide other styles of leadership in keeping with what our team needs. Consider drawing on the skills of others who may possess different strengths and can assist in meeting team needs.

Leadership is about identifying the needs of your team and ensuring that those needs are met. Consider what your team needs to be supported, even if it means sharing your leadership with others!
