We have all become so serious about life, politics, and about so many things in our world. Yes, there are serious issues that need our attention and for which we must speak out. But humor and laughter are just as important if we are going to be truly successful.
It is important first because it helps us keep a positive attitude. Most people find it impossible to be grumpy and laugh at the same time. Positive attitudes allow us to rise above challenges and find solutions.
Laughter also helps us be humble. When we laugh at our own mistakes and even our weaknesses it provides permission for others to complement our areas of challenge, and for us to exhibit humility. This display of humility will also allow others to do the same and allow us to be interdependent.
Laughter affects us by releasing stress. We carry far too much stress in life and it harms us physically and emotionally. Laughter allows us to see the good in life and reminds us that everything will be okay in the end.
Further, laughter draws others to us. People love to be around someone who is positive and can laugh even in the midst of trying times. No one wants to be around someone who only talks about doom and gloom. We are drawn to people who are joyful, happy and have a sense of humor.
When was the last time you laughed? Search out joke books or apps, and read fun stories that remind us that life is good and there is much to be celebrated. The next time you are tempted to pull your hair out in frustration, laugh instead and appreciate the positive impact you will have on yourself and others.
