Intentional Leadership

At times, we hear people say they were “lucky” to receive a promotion or land a business opportunity. Stories of success that seem to fall into someone’s lap are always appealing — those moments when everything magically goes right.

While luck can play a role, true and lasting success is rarely accidental. More often, it’s the result of two essential leadership qualities: intentionality and strategy

Intentionality is the foundation. Without it, leaders risk becoming passive, waiting for success to find them. Intentional leaders act with purpose. Whether attending a meeting, engaging in a conversation, or making a decision, they ask themselves:

  • Who do I need to connect with?
  • What information or approval do I need to move forward?
  • What outcome am I aiming for?

Intentionality helps leaders prioritize what matters and ensures follow-through.

Strategy complements intentionality by providing direction. Strategic leaders set clear goals, map out how to achieve them, and monitor progress along the way. They make decisions not just for today, but with an eye on how those choices will shape future opportunities. This mindset fosters awareness, reduces missteps, and opens doors.

Together, intentionality and strategy empower leaders to maximize potential, turn ideas into reality, and be ready when opportunity knocks. Opportunities are everywhere — but only those who are prepared will recognize and seize them.

So, begin each day, each meeting, and each communication by asking:
What do I want to achieve?
Then, be intentional and strategic in pursuing that purpose. You’ll find your days filled with motivation, clarity, and meaningful progress.
