Making Great Decisions One Moment at a Time

Making great decisions happens one moment at a time, but always with the future in mind. While this may sound contradictory, it is actually an important way to balance our decisions. So, let’s begin by always keeping the future in mind.

Keeping the Future in Mind

It can be tempting to make decisions based on what appears to be beneficial in the moment. However, while that may seem easier, it often leads to disconnected decisions. As a result, those choices do not move us toward our goals. Instead, they simply check the box on a to do list.

On the other hand, understanding what we are trying to achieve helps us stay on track. It allows us to make the best decision possible.

Adapting to Change and New Information

Likewise, we also have to consider new information and changes that may occur. Because of this, we need to reflect on what is the best we can do in the moment.

At times, some people become so focused on the ideal outcome that they feel stuck. They may become paralyzed by any flaw. Instead, we must move forward in the best way possible. In doing so, we avoid rigidity and maintain momentum.

Doing the Best in the Moment

Making great decisions one moment at a time means doing the very best for ourselves and others. This helps us move toward our goals.

For example, if you want to lose weight, even a small decision matters. Choosing whether to have a piece of cake or pie becomes more meaningful. It is defined by your goal and what is best for your body at that time.

Choosing the Best for Growth

Sometimes, what we need is to invest in learning. Other times, it may be networking with other leaders. In some cases, it is creating space for planning and visioning.

The answer to moving forward is not always the same. Instead, it requires evaluating what is the best solution available. It should be good for us now and in the future.

Moving Forward with Confidence

Considering the best we can do for ourselves, our organization, or our team helps reduce uncertainty. It frees us from worrying about “what ifs.” Instead, it allows us to focus on doing the best possible.

Doing your best today will open the door to the best of tomorrow.
