Attention Getter

Many companies use commercials, billboards, texts, emails, cold calls, etc. to get your attention.  They purposely interrupt your day hoping you will act on what they are promoting.

However, these marketing efforts are not the only things that distract and interrupt us.  Every day we are bombarded with questions, requests, unforeseen circumstances, and emails or texts to respond to.  As soon as we get one task done, two more arrive in our inbox.

Additionally, we are sometimes distracted by new opportunities, fun events, or enjoyable conversation with others.  While these are not bad things, they can distract us from the most important things we should be about.  We can lose sight of our goals and thereby neglect to advance our team.

Living in a world full of distractions requires us to set priorities each day.  Starting your day knowing what needs to be accomplished allows you to be focused.  Many of us consider our day to be finished when it is 5:00 p.m. If that is your goal, you may stop at 5:00 pm. But what will you have achieved beyond general activity?

Instead, if we commit to working until we accomplish our top goal, think of how that helps us be focused.  In fact, we tend to be more productive because we know that goal needs to be completed prior to the end of our day.  You will probably still get done near the same time of the day, but you’ll fulfill your priorities without giving in to distractions.

Let’s commit to ourselves and to one another to be focused on our goals, and thereby better impact our teams and fulfill our mission.  By prioritizing our goals, we avoid distractions and wasting the precious resource of time.  Invest your time wisely!!
